Artificial Domiciliation, Foraging Behaviour and Biology of Xylocopa fenestrata F.
Abstract
This study demonstrated that Xylocopa fenestrata F. exhibited specific nesting and foraging preferences. The bees selectively utilized dry bamboo nodes for nesting, constructing linear nest patterns. The preference was shown for bamboo nodes with diameters of 1.5 cm. Xylocopa bees were active pollinators of several crops, including sunhemp, pigeonpea, sesbania and drumstick. Foraging activity varies throughout the day, with peak visitations observed in sunhemp and drumstick during the mid-afternoon and bimodal activity (morning and afternoon) on pigeonpea flowers. X. fenestrata was found to be the dominant pollinator on both sesbania and drumstick.
