Biography
Dr. Sinomar Fonseca Jr. is an interdisciplinary ecologist trained at the University of Florida, with a concentration in Tropical Conservation and Development, and a researcher at Juruá Institute. His research focuses on Indigenous studies, conservation, biocultural approaches, environmental governance, political ecology, participatory monitoring of natural resources and biodiversity, and community-based management. He has taught at Amazonas State University and North Center University in the Brazilian Amazon. He previously served as Protected Areas Director at the Manaus Environment Agency and as Coordinator of Research and Environmental Monitoring for one of the largest state protected area systems in the world. Recently, he consulted for IUCN on a global assessment of wetland restoration.
