Biography

Dr. Rajinder Peshin, former Director of Education, Controller of Examination and Professor & Head at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST Jammu), India, is the vice president of the Indian Ecological Society (IES).  As vice president of the IES, he organised three international conferences. He earned his masters and PhD degrees from the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India. He worked as an agriculture extension officer in the Department of Agriculture, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, from 1989 to 1998 before joining the SKUAST Jammu, in 1998. He retired from active teaching in June 2025. His research expertise is the dissemination and evaluation of issues associated with sustainable agriculture research and development programmes, especially for integrated pest management  (IPM). He employed a multidisciplinary approach that highlighted the importance of IPM in improving food and nutrition security and increasing farmers incomes through agricultural development programmes. He developed a model for predicting the adoptability of agricultural technologies when tested in farmers fields, and an evaluation methodology for integrated pest management programmes. He has contributed to policy issues related to on-farm and
off-farm income in the livelihood of small-holding farmers. Dr. Peshin has published over 86 scientific papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals of repute, 24 book chapters and 12 books. Four volumes of the IPM series (Volumes 1–4) are published by Springer, with two authored by Prof. David Pimentel from Cornell University, USA.
